After organizing your files and folders and clearing your desktop, now it is time to organize your data. Thanks to Windows. It offers its users to very smart and powerful utilities to clean up your hard drives, namely Disk Cleanup and Disk Defragmenter, which can help you free up your hard drive space and make your computer running faster.
Let’s know more on these two utilities. Disk Cleanup can compress your old files to free up storage space in hard drive. While Disk Defragmenter can scan your hard drive and consolidate files that might be scattered across the disk.
You can choose which utility to use, it is up to you. But, please remember to clean up hard drive at least once a month by manual. For Windows Vista users, they are lucky for the Disk Defragmenter in Windows Vista is automatically scheduled to run once a week. You do not run it by manual. What is more, you can change the scheduled time (default is Sunday at 4 A.M.) as you like.
Habit 3. Make full use of system restore feature
System Restore is such a program in Windows that can work as a life-saver when you have been the unfortunate recipient of unstable software, a badly timed power outage, or even a damaging thunderstorm. System Restore works to record all your important documents, settings, and preferences on your PC. If you find your files are damaged or inaccessible, System Restore is a good choice to restore your computer to the same state it was in before the data was lost.
The only thing you need to do is to use System Restore to create restore points daily and whenever you install device drivers, automatic updates or some other applications.
Habit 4. Remember to keep Windows and Microsoft Office latest
To offer better services to its users, computer programs are continually improved based on customer feedback and regular product testing. These improvements can solve most common problems including the new ones. Windows gives you a little utility to keep your Windows Update. It is suggested to keep this feature on always. By checking Microsoft Update, you can get the most recent Windows and Microsoft Office improvements available to your computer.
Habit 5. Have at least one antivirus software installed on your computer
To keep your computer safe and improve PC health, there is another thing you must do, to install at least antivirus software on your computer. There are a lot of such antivirus software in the current market, here we recommend some freeware for your reference like Microsoft, AVG, Norton, Acebyte or McAfee. No matter what antivirus software you have installed, the most important you need to do is to keep your antivirus software up to date regularly. Some antivirus software providers allow you to enjoy free trial version. But once the trial version is expired, you are exposed to buy the full version.
